Important criteria of an electric skateboard
The most important features of an electric skateboard are of course different from those of a conventional skateboard.
Unlike the classic skateboard, there are other features to consider when buying electric boards. Of course, essential aspects are the same, but especially the battery and the drive have some differences,
Electric longboards are characterized by their long decks and wide wheels. These are also softer and slightly larger than a classic skateboard. The driving pleasure is in the foreground and the E-Longboards achieve partly quite high speeds of up to 45km/h.
While with the classic skateboard without a motor the focus is on tricks, with an electric skateboard you can only perform smaller tricks, for example:
⎫ an ollie
⎫ with practice a kick flip
⎫ a wheelie
Criteria for the purchase of the electric skateboard:
⎫ The batteries As with any electric vehicle, the batteries are the heart of the whole, standard are now lithium ion batteries, just like in the laptop and smartphone. Unfortunately, the batteries only last for about an hour, which corresponds to a range of 20-40 km. After that, they need to be charged, which takes between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the model. As far as the range is concerned, of course, it always depends on the nature of the route. If this has many gradients, the range is correspondingly somewhat shorter. In addition, the weight of the load naturally also plays a role. As soon as the battery charge runs out, the skateboard slows down. If the batteries are completely discharged on the way, you can still push the e-skateboard normally with your feet. However, the electric longboards are much heavier than a normal skateboard, so the thing is relatively troublesome and you should not go for it if possible. Since the batteries, or the remote control app make themselves known in time, this should be the exception anyway. Batteries can be replaced on some models.
⎫ The control The control of the e-skateboard works depending on the model either via a smartphone app, a Bluetooth or wireless remote control. The most practical option is the smartphone app. This typically has a controller with which you can accelerate or brake steplessly. In a few meters you come to a standstill without any problems. Steering is as with any normal skateboard by simply shifting weight to the left or right.
⎫ The drive The electric skateboards are powered by an electric motor located on one of the rear wheels. The boards usually reach a top speed of up to 40 km/h and can handle a maximum incline of 20-30%. However, this also depends on factors such as payload and surface. Some models have the motor built into the roller, which has some advantages. This is because there is no need for a timing belt, which makes these boards less prone to wear and tear. In addition, these models roll better when the motor is not in use.Safety Since electric skateboards reach fairly high speeds, they are definitely not children's toys. Accordingly, the manufacturer's age recommendation is at least 14 years old. A helmet should be worn, as with other electric vehicles, as well as on the wrists, knees and elbows.
The legal situation in road traffic
So far, it is not yet allowed to ride electric skateboards on public roads. You should in no case be caught by the police, because then you will most likely get a heavy fine.
Electric longboard for kids
Who nevertheless would like to have an electric skateboard for his child, or is a little bit insecure himself and does not want to go quite so fast, can look around for special electric longboards for children and beginners.
These models are much slower and have less power than the big boards. Range and acceleration are still relatively high, so you can have fun with these boards as well.
